Full transparency: 21st century real-time metrics & systems

Nine questions to find the Gap

Can you (or your delegate) answer most questions/statements with a strong 'yes'?

  1. All of our sales, operations, and financial data is readily available to the board through a centralized database.

  2. We have the capability to assess the daily status of orders, product mix, margins, customers, plant performance, and health & safety indicators.

  3. Contribution Margin I and II, variable cost, overhead cost, absenteeism, productivity, mix change, and market penetration are consistently measured across all of our business units.

  4. We use modern reporting software, such as MS Power-BI, uniformly throughout the company.

  5. Our access control is designed to be as open as necessary for the efficient operation of the business while also being secure to prevent data leakage.

  6. We have standardized metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) that are controlled by the board and are used company-wide.

  7. We believe that real-time data is the new normal in the 21st century.

  8. Sales personnel are incentivized to provide accurate information in a timely manner into the sales system and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

  9. Every metric is evaluated to determine if manual intervention is necessary or even possible.

  10. Bonus question: Most of our cost metrics focus on the most significant cost factors, rather than just on general administration (G&A) expenses.

If you answered ‘yes’ to most questions, great!

You have your company brilliantly under control.

If you answered ‘no’ or are unsure about it, you most likely have an excellent opportunity to take the steering wheel and have a smoother ride.
